Securing Search & Analytics:
Data Ownership & Privacy
Key findings of recent independent research
How to take full control of in-site search infrastructure

Data privacy is a growing concern in modern online services like eCommerce, where third-party components – such as analytics and search tools – can unintentionally expose user data, as highlighted by recent research.
In this webinar, we’ll explore the common causes of data leaks and demonstrate how to take full control of your data. Through practical examples, we’ll show how to protect customer privacy, ensure regulatory compliance, and build AI-ready systems without compromising data ownership or control.
Research: Up to 35% of the online services leak user data
A doctoral dissertation (Rauti 2025), conducted at the University of Turku, revealed serious privacy related data leaks in selected online services. These issues originate from the use of third-party components used, such as those employed for information retrieval and analytics. As a consequence, up to 35% of the services examined were found to leak personal data to third-party entities, enabling the identification and tracking of individual users.
We will have a pleasure of having doctoral researcher Mr. Sampsa Rauti introducing the the key findings during this session.
Welcome!
The content of this webinar is designed for both specialists and decision-makers working with data security and privacy.
Agenda
Why Data Privacy & Ownership Matters in Search and Analytics
The business risks of handing over customer data to 3rd-party platforms, regulatory pressures and data as a strategic asset.
Research: Data leaks via 3rd party search and analytics tools
In this session, doctoral researcher Sampsa Rauti will present key findings from his recent study, which uncovered that up to 35% of the analyzed services and websites in Finland inadvertently leak personal data through third-party search and analytics tools. The presentation will explore these results across various industries, highlighting not only the extent of the data leaks but also their sources and common patterns.
How Elastic can make your web platform more secure
Observe and analyze your website data and traffic by utilizing dedicated Elastic deployments either on-prem or in cloud. The core component in Elastic is Elasticsearch – the most used Vector Database. In this session we cover how to embed Elastic’s search capabilities on your website without sharing critical search data with 3rd party.
