Zimbra Collaboration Suite 6.0 released, and
Zimbra Reaches 50 Million Paid Mailboxes

Industry’s most flexible collaboration suite expands open platform and delivers best-in-class enterprise features that create personally relevant experiences for millions of customers worldwide.

Zimbra, a division of Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO) and the leader in open source, next-generation e-mail and collaboration software, has announced the launch of Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) 6.0.

The most significant upgrade to the Zimbra software to date, ZCS 6.0 further extends the open Zimlet platform to third-party developers. With the new Zimlet platform, a Zimbra customer or partner can build out fully featured applications directly within the collaboration suite, which pulls in information from third party sources. This improves enterprise collaboration through a host of new community-driven features such as expanded calendaring, sharing and enhanced mobile support – ideal enhancements for Zimbra’s business, service provider, education and open source customers.

Zimbra continues to be the fastest-growing enterprise collaboration solution with more than 50 million paid mailboxes, representing 165 percent year-over-year growth. Zimbra is now among the largest business collaboration providers along with Microsoft and IBM, and is the largest on-premise open source collaboration suite in paid mailboxes. Zimbra is now used by more than 100,000 organizations worldwide, with thousands of new customers this year.

“We’ve crossed a huge milestone, reaching 50 million paid mailboxes in less than four years – our explosive growth is fueled by the support and feedback of our diverse community of customers, developers, and partners,” said Jim Morrisroe, Yahoo! vice president and general manager, Zimbra. “Key features in ZCS 6.0 were determined by thousands of votes from the Zimbra community, enabling us to build a premier e-mail and collaboration suite to address top requests, meet market demand, and position us to continue our strong global growth.”

New features in ZCS 6.0 include:

  • Increased productivity – Three pane e-mail view and the ability to compose e-mail in separate tabs; enhanced calendar functionality and improved visual view of appointments, including a “fish-eye” zoom-in feature within calendar; read receipts assuring that e-mail has been read; improved file and sharing management; customized rules and filters on current e-mails and ability to sort e-mail message by size; conveniently attach any file from Zimbra Briefcase to e-mail and manage shared documents or folders.
  • Enhanced mobile experience – Mobile device management and security features such as remote device wipe to protect sensitive information; ability to search the Global Address List on your mobile device; and many mobile browser enhancements such as create and edit contacts, create appointments, save searches, and access Zimbra Documents and Briefcase.
  • Administrator benefits – Improved administration with role-based delegation at multiple administrator levels, choice of access rights, distribution list management, and permission management; domain management with the ability to manage multiple domain; and new alerts warning when storage disk reaches close to full capacity.
  • Integrated mash-up experience – New Zimlet tab allows customers or partners to integrate third-party web applications, offering better customization and control of mash-ups in Zimbra.
